WILMINGTON, NC, (November 23, 2020)—Trial Management Associates, LLC (TMA), an integrated site network, and Drs. Bart Williams and Will Jones of Wrightsville Family Practice in Wilmington, NC, will soon begin conducting trials for two new Covid-19 vaccines. The news comes just as TMA wraps up trials enrollment in Wilmington for Moderna’s coronavirus vaccine, which has been found to have an efficacy rate of 95 percent.
“We were honored to be a part of the highly successful Moderna vaccine trials, and we are thrilled to announce that we have been selected to carry out trials for two more promising vaccines,” says Phil Dattilo, president of TMA. “These trials represent an exceptional opportunity for people in our community to not only contribute to the development of coronavirus vaccines, but to also have the chance to receive a vaccine before they become readily available.”
Once approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), production of the vaccines and nationwide distribution could take months. As Covid cases are expected to surge in the winter months, the virus continues to pose a health risk to our community. Volunteers who participate in the trials have the potential to receive a vaccine long before they are available. Dattilo says, “TMA’s goal is to bring as many coronavirus vaccine trials to our community until an FDA-approved vaccine is widely available to the Wilmington community and surrounding areas.”
Many local participants in the Moderna trial have expressed high satisfaction with their experience. Dr. Bart Williams, the Principal Investigator of the Moderna coronavirus vaccine study, says, “We are hearing from our patients how grateful they are that they participated in the trial. Patients say they found the process to be easy as well as rewarding.” TMA and Wrightsville Family Practice are recruiting healthy study volunteers ages 18 and older from Wilmington and the surrounding communities to participate in the two new trials. They are especially seeking healthcare workers, first responders and other essential workers who face higher exposure to the virus.
